Thanksgiving Food Hangover

The day after Thanksgiving, family is still in town and you are thinking about black Friday sales. Or maybe you're laid out on the couch with a Thanksgiving food hangover. What now? Just go for it until January?

I feel as though every year we go through the same dilemma. After day light savings time, it's starts to get darker earlier and cold and wet. We want to hunker down and eat and sleep. It takes all of our strength to drag ourselves to the gym or to eat a cold salad. Yeah we can still eat cold salad in the winter, but let's face it it's not nearly as appealing as when it's 110 degrees outside.

Feeling the way that we do today, what should we do? Try to exercise off the damage of yesterday only to make ourselves sick for a whole other reason? The way that the body works for managing weight is that it wants some level of consistency. Right now it's not sure what's going to happen. Are we going to starve it for the next week, hoping not to gain any weight, or are we going to over feed for the next month? Right now is a waiting game for the body seeing what it is you are going to do.

We have been on this merry-go-round before, we have the opportunity to exit this cycle. Unless we have a different outlook and view of our life, then I'll see you on that merry-go-round again next year.

Begin the exit by determining what is truly important to you in your life. Is the eating the rest of the pumpkin pie or digging deep and shifting to focus on things in your life you hold with value?
